Flow Program Mentors

Go with the FLOW

FLOW (Future Leaders Of the World) is a grant supported mentoring program in all elementary and middle schools in St. Mary's County Public Schools.  The program is designed to help nurture and encourage students who could use a little extra support. CPCS participated in the program last year with 7 students. Our focus last year involved increasing social skills, self esteem, and academic achievement. We did this in a variety of ways including workshops on goal setting, activities that promoted social interaction and problem solving, and art activities that allowed the students to express themselves and build self confidence.

This year we are in dire need of mentors to continue the program at CPCS.

Research has shown that children with positive adult role models do better in school both academically and socially. We are looking for people who can commit one afternoon a week to mentor a CPCS student. FLOW sessions are an hour and a half and take place from 3:00-4:30pm on Wednesdays.

If you are interested or know someone outside the school community who might be interested please contact Ellen Primack, FLOW site leader, at eyprimack@smcps.org.

All perspective mentors are required to complete a background check, an interview, and a training session to be involved in the program.

We need 10 mentors to participate in the program this year. Please consider giving your time to help strengthen, nurture and grow our most precious resource, our students.
