Foreign Language Studies Begin

Students have begun their studies in Spanish!  All students will be receiving regular instruction during the week.  Please read the following introduction from our new Spanish teacher!

Hola!  Me llamo Katie Johnson and I will be teaching your child Spanish this school year!  For the first several weeks, we will review what was learned last year with the students from St. Mary's College.  If your child is a Kindergartner or new to the Charter School this year, that's ok!  The review time will help your child learn the basics.

We'll start with colors, numbers, common greetings and then progress to other meaningful / every day vocabulary.  I will be using games, songs and hands on activities to teach vocabulary, greetings and basic conversation.  We will also explore cultural themes from Spanish speaking countries and identify those places on a world map.

Your child will be provided a binder or notebook to keep all papers.  I would like the children to bring it home after our class day to review at home / teach parents or guardians what they learned until the next week.  Your child will be asked on occasion to make flash cards on index cards to use around the house to reinforce appropriate vocabulary words used in the home.  I'm really looking forward to teaching your child Spanish this year!

Hasta Luego,
"Maestra" (teacher) Johnson
