Karen AntonacioMrs. Antonacio
Over the past two weeks we have been doing a lot of reading and writing as I am trying to get to know your student as a learner. I am listening to your child read and discuss literature and had them complete a writing pre-assessment. We have been focusing on non-fiction reading as well as beginning novels in small groups. Our goal is for every student to read at least 25 books by June.
We are also starting our Writing Workshop in the classroom and are using the 6 + 1 Writing Traits Model. The first trait we are focusing on is Ideas. Ask you student what Ideas means and how it applies to good writing.
Homework: As far as homework, most of what I will send home will require reading in preparation for class discussion. Students should be reading nightly, it may be required reading from class or a book from home. Parents should be signing agendas each evening. Periodically, there may be a short assignment, like the name assignment from last week.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at klantonacio@smcps.org.
Thanks,
Mrs. Antonacio
