Message from Our Principal
Welcome to Dynard Elementary School! We remain the best kept secret of St. Mary’s County Public Schools. Dynard is nestled in the quiet 7th District Community, but is comprised of the most dedicated group of students and staff. We pride ourselves as being a community of learners, both students and adults alike.
We look forward to another year of progressive academic achievement while striving to achieve mastery of the standards of the Maryland Common Core State Curriculum. While fostering character education in our students, our staff and students continuously strive to model and develop excellent character. The Dynard Dragons are on fire with F.L.A.M.E.-Focus, Leadership, Attendance, Manners and Excellence! Those are the five tenets on which we are framing our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, or P.B.I.S implementation. We proudly praise and recognize our students when they demonstrate Focus, Leadership, Attendance, Manners and Excellence. Dynard Elementary has achieved P.B.I.S.GOLD status!
Student success and achievement is largely based on regular, prompt and consistent attendance. The administration and staff of DES monitors student attendance on a daily basis. We encourage students to be in school “All Day, Every Day” by offering a variety of incentives at the classroom and individual level. This year’s attendance theme is “Caught Up in Outstanding Attendance”. Each day that all students are present in their homerooms, classrooms can fill in a letter on their Attendance strip. Once that strip is completely filled in, classrooms “catch” a fish for each attendance strip they submit. At the end of the year, the two classrooms that caught the most fish will enjoy a special reward for best overall attendance. Students are also recognized individually for outstanding and perfect attendance. Students who are present from “bell to bell” each day of the month will earn the opportunity to participate in the monthly AttenDANCE. This is just an extra way to celebrate students’ outstanding attendance. At our quarterly F.L.A.M.E. assemblies, students are recognized for Perfect Attendance (present 4+ hours/day) and DES’s Outstanding Attendance (all day, every day from bell to bell).
A major change has occurred regarding our schoolwide breakfast program. DES no longer qualifies for Maryland Meals for Achievement (MMFA). Through MMFA, all students, regardless of family income, were provided breakfast in the classroom at no charge. This is no longer available to all students. Breakfast will be offered daily in the cafeteria for students, but a fee may be charged to students who do not qualify for Free or Reduced Meals. Students who receive free or reduced breakfast or want to purchase breakfast will eat in the cafeteria vs. the classroom.
Breakfast hours: 8:55 a.m.- 9:10 a.m.
