The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and their feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They acquire and build on decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and attain attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.
At Evergreen Elementary a comprehensive developmental school counseling program is implemented to provide education, prevention and intervention services for all students. Students benefit from the school counseling program by developing knowledge and skills in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development which is integrated into all aspects of their school day and provides a foundation for their future success.
The school counseling program provides services that include:

If you feel your child has issues related to any of the above and it is impacting their academic performance in school, please contact Ms. Coyne.
A solution focus counseling approach is used when working with individual students that might be experiencing some difficulties that are impacting their school performance. With this approach a solution goal is the focus to solving the problem. We don’t necessarily focus on what is causing the problem or what is wrong, but instead what can we change to make the problem better. This helps give the responsibility back to the child and the ability for them to take control on making things better. Any individual counseling sessions is short –term (1-3 sessions) and is not therapy. It is an opportunity for the student and school counselor to work together to address an immediate problem that is impacting their success in the classroom. If you believe your child needs to meet with a therapist regularly, please contact Ms.Herb for a list of resources.
