ESPERANZA MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLUB
Esperanza Middle School Students, are you interested in a really exciting, really fun, after school club? THIS IS IT !!! Ms. Williams, 6th Grade Math Teacher, is sponsoring an after school Robotics Club.
This club will involve:
Ø Building and programming robots to solve various challenges
Ø Problem solving
Ø Teamwork
Ø Exploring and trying to solve environmental problems
Ø Competing with other Maryland middle and high schools on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the College of Southern Maryland in La Plata.
We will be able to have 2 teams (Lego Robotics) in the Junior Division (6th, 7th, and 8th grade students) and 1 team (VEX Robotics) in the Senior Division (7th and 8th grade students). Each team can have no more than 10 students per team.
The Robotics Club will meet on Thursdays after school from 2:15 to 4:00pm starting on Thursday, September 17th. Students will need to be picked up no later than 4:00pm and will be able to ride the Pirates Club bus home once it gets started. Students must be dedicated to attending each week and working with their team on order to be able to complete their project in time for the Robotics Challenge Competition in April. Students will also need transportation to and from the Robotics Challenge Competition at the College of Southern Maryland at the La Plata Campus. Students on the teams will need to keep at least a 2.0 GPA.
To see what last year’s competition looked like and find out more about this year’s Robotics Challenge go to the College of Southern Maryland website at:                                              http://www.csmd.edu/roboticschallenge/

If you are interested in joining the Robotics Club please fill out the attached form and return it to Ms. Williams by Tuesday September 8th.
Parents/Guardians who are interested in helping support teams please fill out the form as well. I will need parents/guardians who are interested in helping with providing nutritious snacks for students during the meetings as well as parents/guardians who would be willing to work with the teams. Parents/Guardians who are interested in working with the teams must complete a Volunteer Application Form and have been through the approval process to work with students. Application forms are available in the office and on the St. Mary’s County Public Schools website.
Thank you,
