SAIL’S SHINING STARS
On Monday, December 13th, the Marines came to gather the Toys for Tots gifts we purchased. The students were able to place the toys purchased from our trip to Wal-Mart into the Toys for Tots bin. Afterwards, we celebrated by having hot cocoa and cookies made by Mrs. Baker!
We finished our reading topic of December holidays! We read stories and wrote about three holidays Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali. We made and sampled special foods and even played a game or two! The students enjoyed learning how other cultures celebrate winter holidays. The students especially enjoyed the dreidel game and collecting coins to see who would win the game. In the end, we all shared the coins!
In January, we will begin our new reading topic of the United States. We will be learning about symbols related to America and to freedom. We will explore the United States government, majority rules, and what role voting plays in our society. We will have students exploring the topic of the United States government by writing activities and role playing exercises. It should be a fun and interesting unit!
