Welcome to Great Mills Baseball! The Baseball program is one of the most successful programs in the history of Great Mills High School. We are at or near the top in SMAC, Regional and State Championships. We are proud of this successful tradition. We play in the most competitive baseball conference in the state of Maryland which has had a team in the State Championship game for 12 of the last 14 years. We have sent numerous student athletes to the college ranks and want to continue to prepare student athletes for the next level. This success can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of the players and coaches, as well as, continued support from the parents and community.  We expect great things from our student athletes and expect them to take pride in the fact that they have been selected to be part of this very successful program. The continued success of our program depends on the student athletes accepting this challenge and responsibility seriously and putting forth their best effort every day. We look forward to another successful year which will only happen with the continued hard work by players and coaches and the support from our parents, school, and community.

There are many reasons why students should participate in high school sports. High school sports have the opportunity to teach student athletes life long lessons. Baseball has the benefit of teaching team concepts, but includes individual accomplishment , and teaches how to balance the two. It gives players the opportunity to experience success and teaches how to properly handle failure. I have set the following goals as a coach:

  • 1) Create at Student Centered Program
    2) Strive for academic success
    3) Teach Proper Fundamentals
    4) Develop team unity
    5) Create a positive experience
    6) Prepare Student Athletes for the Next Level of Education/Careers/Sports
    7) Assist Players to Reach their Full Potential
    8) Develop a competitive program
    9) Support youth and community Baseball/Athletics

Equipment Needs:

  • 1. Glove
  • 2. Bat
  • 3. Spikes - metal is acceptable

Financial Items:

  • *Players buy their game socks and game hat
  • *Players are expected to participate in fund raising efforts

Criteria for Team Selection:

Some criteria used in selection student athletes in baseball are as follows:

  • 1. Academics - 2.0 GPA minimum
  • 2. Dedication- Players must be dedicated to their school and baseball
  • 2. Attitude - Must be positive
  • 3. Adaptability - Be Coachable
  • 4. Action - Willing to make the effort to change and improve
  • 5. Ability - Must have sound fundamentals and understanding of the game of baseball.
