Project Possible

Project Possible started as a service learning and has now expanded to become a club.  Started by the AP Government classes in the 2008-2009 school year, Project Possible has grown beyond the walls of Great Mills High School.  Project Possible also has the support of the O Ambassadors program and Free the Children.  The goal of this club is to address issues that affect the global community.  There are four targeted goals:  Poverty, Health, Education and Sustainable Development.

Last year, Project Possible raised funds to help renovate schools in Ecuador and also support the St. Mary's County Shoe Fund.  We are proud to say that we were able to send over $5,000 to help build schools in Ecuador and we gave $2,000 to our local county Shoe Fund.  In addition, students volunteered in many different locations throughout St. Mary's County, logging over 1,186 volunteer hours.  For the coming year, the club and incoming service learning students will target education in foreign countries and at home, Harvest for the Hungry and the St. Mary's County Shoe Fund.

This year, Project Possible has set a target goal of $10,000.  The money raised will go toward both building a school in a poverty stricken country and our local county Shoe Fund.  In addition, we will target Harvest for the Hungry and supporting our local food banks.  The students will be involved in many school, community and charitable events throughout the year as well.

Please help us to achieve our goals!  For futher information about the club, our meetings, or to ask for our help, please contact Luanne Ruonavar at 301-863-4001.  We certainly know we have the right name when we say we are PROJECT POSSIBLE!
