St. Mary’s County Common Scholarship Application The St. Mary’s County Common Scholarship Application, created by BECA, the Business, Education and Community Alliance, allows you to apply for up to twenty different local scholarships worth hundreds of thousands of dollars by completing just one application. You send in one application, one essay, and one set of transcripts and recommendations, and BECA willl copy and distribute to the different scholarship providers you select. Education Programs Chairperson Graduating senior with 3.25 or higher GPA, planning to pursue further education in electronics, engineering, communications, math, computers or scientific discipline. Award: $1500 Deadline: April 1 CA|CH|SM American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology – www.aaaai.org/members (under “search” type in “scholarship then click on the first option) Offered to graduating seniors who will be enrolled in a college or university within three years, who are actively treated by a physician for asthma. Must be a resident of Maryland. Amount: $100 or 1000 Deadline: January CA|CH|SM American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC), Southern Maryland Chapter: P.O. Box 578, Patuxent River, MD 20670 Applicant must be completing senior year, planning to enter a field of study in business or financial management, business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, or related field. Award: $500, plus opportunity to go on in national competition Deadline: early March CA|CH|SM Barbara Balter Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarships - NAWBO – Maryland Chapter – www.nawbomaryland.org Available to female high school seniors. Applicant must complete application form describing the recent or ongoing business or project that demonstrates “entrepreneurial spirit”. Application will require SAT scores. Recipient must plan to attend a two or four year college. Recipient must attend an accredited institution and pursue a curriculum that will prepare them for employment. Applications will be judged on scholarship , leadership and financial need . An essay is required. Amount: $1000 - $15,000 per year; Awards are renewable upon meeting requirements. Undergraduate students whose families earn between $60,000 and $80,000 receive reduced fees. This scholarship is offered in conjunction with the CSM nursing program although winner could request to attend another accredited two year nursing school. Deadline: early March **St. Mary’s Hospital also offers an Employee Loan/Scholarship program whereby a hospital employee can get financial assistance to achieve certification in any area listed as a Critical Position by the hospital. Men only Deadline: February 28 of junior year INFORMATION FOR SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATIONS The nomination process is as follows: 1. Write to your Senator in your junior year of high school. 2. Know the basic requirements. 3. Take your SAT before applying for nomination. You will generally need a critical reading score of 550 or more and a math score of 600 or better. 4. Maintain high academic standing (at least the upper 40% of your class). 5. Maintain first-rate medical condition and proper physical aptitude. 6. Obtain an application from your career center. 7. Compile and submit a completed application including letters of recommendation, transcript of record, and SAT scores. See your counselor for details. 8. Watch your deadline.
