Volunteer Application

Anyone who wishes to volunteer (includes chaperoning a field trip or mentoring in a classroom) in any SMCPS school or office must fill out a volunteer applications and clear a background check in order to be approved.  If you have children at different schools, you will only need to complete one application.  You do not need to complete one for each school and you do not need to resubmit a new application each year.  The full approval process takes approximately 2 weeks.  Please be sure to submit your application at the beginning of the school year, if not then you will need to submit the application approximately 1 month prior to a specific event to ensure the proper approvals are received. The approved application and photo id is good for 5 years.  Once you receive your approval, you will need to have a picture taken for a photo id card which will need to be clearly displayed while on school property.  Pictures are taken at the Department of Safety & Security, located next to the Department of Supporting Services (behind Banneker Elementary School) on Tuesdays & Thursdays between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.  Be sure to have a picture id readily available.  Please be sure to read the Volunteer Letter from the Director of Safety & Security which is attached below.

We highly encourage all of our parents, guardians and grandparents to take the time to complete an application, especially if you ever plan to attend a field trip with a student.
