Message from our Principal

Greetings and welcome to Leonardtown High School!

I and the administrative team start the 2008-2009 school year with a few goals in mind; to adhere to the vision of the SMCPS school system and to create a positive and safe learning environment for the students and staff.

At Leonardtown High School, we will incorporate the key phrases of the SMCPS vision into our daily instructional routine. We will provide all students a rigorous academic setting that will prepare them for future challenges. We will establish relevancy between what the student is learning and how it applies to their lives and the community. The staff will establish positive relationships with the students and each other in order to create a welcoming environment. Lastly, we hope to expand on the most important pillar of Character Education- respect. If we address these issues on a daily basis, I am sure we will be providing students the best opportunity for success.

Secondly, I and the administrative staff are making our best effort to be proactive for safety and security. A positive learning environment starts with making the hallways safe and secure and I have asked that administrators and teachers be in the hallways between every period. Recently, we hired our third safety assistant and have created assignments that allow optimum time in the hallways and covering lunches. An additional security measure has been taken by adding a single entrance door that funnels through the main office. During school hours all students, parents, and members of the community must come through this door for identification.

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns and I look forward to seeing you at the games and events!
