Foreign Language

Welcome to the Leonardtown High School Foreign Language Department Page!

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF LANGUAGES! The World Language teachers are happy to welcome all returning LHS students who are studying French, German, Latin, Spanish, and our new course, Chinese. We are also excited to meet our new students who came to us from our county middle schools, or who transferred to LHS from other areas. We are thrilled that there has been such an increase in the number of students who realize that it is important to become a part of our global community by studying other cultures and learning to speak other languages. We are anticipating a great year of learning.

It also gives us great pleasure to welcome Mrs. Joanne Zhang to our department. Mrs. Zhang will be teaching Chinese 1 and Chinese 2. Our other world language teachers are: Mrs. Valerie Tsekouras (French); Ms. Shawn Rogers (German); Mrs. Michelle Hayes (Latin); Mrs. Katie Kuntz (Spanish); Mrs. Brooke Fallon (Spanish); Mrs. Lisa Riddell (French and Spanish); and World Language Department Chair Mrs. Rebecca Russell (Spanish).

All of our world language teachers are committed to helping students realize their greatest potential. We offer tutoring sessions to any students who request additional help, and we encourage parents to contact us whenever there are questions about their child’s progress in the world language program. We encourage both students and parents to peruse HAC, SAC, and homeworknow.com for progress updates, assignments, syllabi, and language clubs. You may call us or send an e-mail at any time. We look forward to working with all our students and their parents.

Have a great school year!

Course Description

Spanish Club is a social club that meets every other Thursday after school in Mrs. Russell’s room, 2F14. Students do not need to be studying or even to speak Spanish. The goal of the Spanish Club is to enjoy learning about Latino and Hispanic culture. Students learn popular games, cook, make crafts, dance, and celebrate many Latino and Hispanic holidays. There are several field trips already planned for the year! Dues are $10 for the year and are payable at the school bank.

The next Spanish Club meeting will be held from 2:50-3:30 on Thursday, Oct. 4. We will be playing some games as well as making Ojos de Dios. Please bring your pink bank receipt with you so we can count you as an official club member.
