Global International Studies
GIS: There will be a GIS ice cream social for all rising freshman GIS students on 8/20/12 from 11:45 - 12:30 in the LHS cafeteria.
The Global and International Studies program provides students with knowledge of world regions, cultures, and global/international issues. Students participating in international studies develop skills in communicating in languages other than English, working in global or cross-cultural environments, and using information from different sources around the world. An international studies program provides opportunities for students to develop a respect and concern for other cultures and people. The Academy of Global and International Studies (GIS) at Leonardtown High School provides a rigorous, engaging education that will prepare today’s graduates to meet the challenges of life in a global age. Students participating in the GIS program will have an opportunity to learn about world cultures, current affairs, history, and languages, while participating in a regular high school program including activities such as fine arts, athletics, and student government.

GIS meet and learn from Ambassador Armitage. When we arrived we had front row seats reserved especially for us and the ambasador was made aware that we were there to see him from LHS. The Pax Partnership has gone over and beyond in helping us find meaningful events for our students.
The ambassador is most famous for being linked the the Bush administration leaking of Valerie Plame's identity which led to the Vice-Presidents Chief of Staff being sent to prison -Scooter Libby.

Dr. Martirano addressed the first Global and International Studies Cohort at their end of the year banquet in May.
