Starting with the Class of 2009,

All students must pass the High School Assessments (HSA) to graduate. The Maryland State Department of Education has created free, online courses that you can use to help your child on the HAS. Online courses for Algebra/Data Analysis and Government are now available! Biology will go online in early 2007, and English will be added in fall 2007. You can use the courses to help your child learn HAS-tested material and practice answering questions similar to those on the HSA.

Steps:

1. Open your Internet browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox) and type the following into the address bar: http://msde.mdk12online.org

2. At the login screen, enter the following information:
Username: online.course
Password: parent

3. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be at the “My Home” welcome page. In the center of the page is a navigation box titled “My Maryland Courses.” You need to scroll down the page to see the box. (Figure 2)

4. Under “My Maryland Courses” you’ll see a sub-heading titled “Parent” with a plus sign (+) next to it. Click the (+) to see the available courses. (Figure 2)

5. Click on the course you’d like to see. Once you’ve chosen the course, you’ll see the curse title (e.g., Algebra Data Analysis) at the top of the screen with a navigation bar below. (Figure 3 & Figure 4)

6. To access the course resources (overviews, modules, questions, and activities), click on “Content” on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Figure 4
