"Good schools, like good societies and good families, celebrate and cherish diversity." -Deborah Meier
Dear Jaguar Families, Community Members, and Visitors to the LMS Website:
It gives me great pleasure to greet you as the new Principal of Leonardtown Middle School (LMS). It is no secret that LMS has enjoyed tremendous success over the years and remains a stalwart of academic excellence among St. Mary’s County Public Schools. I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with our students, and working with our professional staff, parents, and community members. Only by working together can we ensure that every student is provided the highest quality education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. I am humbled and most appreciative of the opportunity to not only become a member of this educational family but to continue the legacy of success.
I have been privileged to have spent the last 18 years as an educator in St. Mary’s County, from the middle and high school to the collegiate levels and central office. While I treasure every experience at the various levels, anyone who knows me, can attest to my passion for the middle school years. Most of my teaching and administrative years have been working with students and staff of this age group. As you well know, this is a crucial time of transition—moving from the elementary experience to preparing for the bigger challenges of high school. My goal is to make this transition as seamlessly as possible for our students while maintaining the level of academic excellence that we have come to enjoy.
As the instructional leader of our fine school, I enthusiastically embrace the opportunity to use every resource at my disposal to ensure that students are prepared with the necessary tools to be productive citizens as they write the next chapter of their educational lives. However, I cannot do this alone. It is going to take a team approach to create and maintain that desired learning environment and YOU are my players. I look forward to the exchange of ideas as we all work to weave a tapestry of educational masterpieces for many years to come...
Proud to be a Jaguar,
Dr. Deborah A. G. Dennie Principal
