Young Adult Literature Section
Our Young Adult (YA) Literature section will house literature that is most typically written for ages ranging from twelve to eighteen years; however, marketing attracts readers between the ages of ten and twenty-five. The YA Literature’s plot, theme, and setting are appealing to students. The subject matter addresses problems, issues, and life circumstances of interest to middle and high school readers. The content is intended for a mature reader.
Any student who would like to check out a book from our YA section must have a signed parent permission form on file in the Margaret Brent Media Center. The forms are available in the Media Center or you can click here to download a form.
Questions can be directed to Mrs. Lowe in the Media Center.
The mission of the St. Mary's County Public Schools Library Media Program is to foster development of effective and ethical use of information and ideas while advocating life-long reading and learning habits by providing instruction, resources, and services to our students, staff, and community.
Students visit the library every two weeks during their Language Arts class for the purpose of checking out books. They may also visit during lunchtime and at other times during the school day with a Media Center Pass issued by their classroom teacher. Students are allowed to check out 5 books at a time for a 2-week period. Books can be renewed if the book has not been placed on hold by another student. Students can also borrow books through the Interlibrary Loan program that all of the public schools in St. Mary's County participate in. (Note: Books that are borrowed from other schools must follow the borrowing policies in place at that school.)
St. Mary's County Public Library
In partnership with the St. Mary's County Public Libraries, Margaret Brent Middle School endeavors to promote reading. To that end, an application for a St. Mary's County Public Library Card is available by clicking here. If you fill out and submit this form to the Library Media Specialist at Margaret Brent, it will be delivered to a branch of the St. Mary's County Public Library system for processing. When the card is returned to the building, it will be delivered to the student.
As a part of our collaboration with St. Mary’s County Library, a webpage has been created to help students locate resources.
