The mission of the MBMS PTSA is to provide support for the students and staff at Margaret Brent Middle School.

To help accomplish this mission, the PTSA raises money through dances, the Penny Drive, and Idol Talent Night. Donations are always welcome! Funds generated by these events (and part of the $5.00 membership dues) allowed teachers to purchase various classroom tools for the students to use, such as microscopes, compasses, and calculators. The PTSA also supports many assemblies, clubs, celebrations, and field day for our school. Your $5.00 Membership Dues Breaksown is as follows: $1.75 - National PTA; $1.50 - Maryland PTA; $0.50 - St. Mary's County PTA; and $1.25 - Margaret Brent PTSA.

The PTSA is always looking for additional members and volunteers. Volunteers are in particularly high demand for helping with our dances, good referral lunches, and field day. Without sufficient volunteers to act as chaperones, our dances would not be possible.

The PTSA meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:15 PM.

Update:

We purchased and delivered a Nintendo Wii system to the Community Based Learning Class.  I understand they are pretty excited about using it.  The Physical Education teacher thanked the PTSA for providing this system for the class, especially the fitness components. It is great to have fun while we learn and exercise!  A poster sized “Thank you” card was written and decorated by the children and delivered to the California Best Buy store. The store gave us a 20% discount on the accessories.  If you get a chance, thank them for supporting our school.

Our second membership drawing winner is Ms. Theresa Morris. She will be given $20.00 in WaWa gift cards.

The parent volunteer and Box Top Coordinator, Mrs. Donna Ordille, reported that the school will receive $86.00 for our first spur of the moment drive.  Thanks to everyone that sent in box tops on short notice. We did not find out until late that Target Stores were matching the box tops submitted.  Our school mailed in over 550 box tops.  Can you imagine how many we could send in if we start collecting now for the next big event or contest?

The next Good Referral Luncheon is Friday November 7th.  If you want to volunteer to help serve the food, drink and/or dessert, Ms. Towne would appreciate the help.  Volunteers are needed at the school at 10:25 am - 30 minutes before the first lunch starts to set up.  Six graders will eat first at 10:55 am, followed by the 8th graders and then the 7th graders.  The last lunch period ends at 1:17 pm.  Please plan for an additional 15 minutes for clean up.

The next PTSA meeting is on the second Thursday of the month on Thursday, November 13th at 3:15 in the Media Center.  Thanks to all the members that have attended so far this year. Your participation has been overwhelming.

We heard your voice, and the following PTSA meeting on Thursday, December 11th will be held at 5:30 in the Media Center.  We will try to alternate meeting times to include an evening meeting. Hopefully the new meeting time will allow parents to attend that can not be there at 3:15.

The next School Dance will be after school on Friday, November 14th.  We will be asking for volunteers to help chaperone the dance, sell food, drinks, candy or take pictures at the dance.   We could also use volunteers, if any are available during the day, to help collect the permission slips and money, followed by issuing the wristbands at lunch. We have an evening dance coming up soon!

We are looking for volunteers interested in helping with the dances. We want to organize themed dances, add activities, maybe decorations, maybe karaoke or even a gaming area during the evening dances for children wanting to participate in DS Download Play.  If this sounds like something you are interested in please let me know.
