SMCPS Library Media Mission The mission of the St. Mary's County Public Schools Library Media Program is to foster development of effective and ethical use of information and ideas while advocating life-long reading and learning habits by providing instruction, resources, and services to our students, staff, and community.
Each student comes to the Media Center once a week for 45 minutes. The focus of the instruction will be on technology, research skills and literature. (For additional information on the Media Grading Policy, please click on the link below.) During the visit, each student will have the opportunity to browse for and check out a book. The book is checked out for one week and is due at the time of the student's next scheduled Media class. If a book is not returned by this time, the student is issued an overdue notice. The notice serves as a reminder to the student and parents to locate the book and return it as soon as possible. There are no overdue fees associated with the notice. If a student has not finished reading the book, they may renew their book for another week. Book care and check out procedures are discussed in Media class. If a book is lost or damaged, a notice will be sent home indicating the replacement cost of the book. If a lost book is paid for and later found, a full refund will be issued.
