Standards Based Report Card Update
St. Mary’s County Public Schools formed a report card committee in 2015 and included representation from every elementary school in the county. The committee revised the Pre-K through Grade 2 Standards Based Report Card to reflect recent curriculum changes, which was successfully implemented this school year. The work of the committee continues as we focus on creating a Standards Based reporting system for Grades 3-5. We recognize the need to provide on-going professional development for our staff as well as the need to educate and communicate with families in order to prepare for the transition. We are committed to a successful implementation and, therefore, we will gather feedback and provide training during the 2017-18 school year and begin implementation for 3rd grade during the 2018-19 school year. The 4th and 5th grade Standards Based Report Cards will follow in consecutive school years.
Please contact Ms. Edwards at the school if you would like additional information about Standards Based Report Cards. Piney Point Elementary will have various options for parents throughout this process to keep you informed.

Harvest of the Heart
During the month of February we would like to hold a Harvest of the Heart food collection. At this time of year food banks become depleted. Our school population is so generous, helping to restock the Southern Maryland Food Bank is a goal we would like to undertake. If you can, please send canned or boxed goods in to your child’s classroom throughout the month. Many thanks for all of your help with this effort.
