A Parent's Guide to the MSA

 

 

 

 

Have your child explain in their own words a question, solution, or strategy

Ask your child what information is given in the problem?
Can you child create a model to go with a problem?
Can your child check your work?
Does your child know what math tools to use (ruler, protractor, compass, etc.)?
 

 
Read at least 30 minutes a night
Help your child use organizational aids to brainstorm ideas
 

 
Discuss current events at home with your child
 
 
 
-Find examples in the real world that use Math to interpret data
-Provide your child with evidence for observations
-Complete homework
-Read science literature at home
 

 
Band/Orchestra – make sure your child is bringing home their instrument and practicing at least 15 minutes at home
Health – Have your child practice reading nutrition labels on the back of food items before making choices about what to eat
Spanish – Please encourage your child to recover assessments if necessary
Art – Provide your child with open ended questions about real world art examples
PE – Provide your child with strategies/analogies for daily life
 

 
Practice fact fluency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with flashcards or online games

Practice reading comprehension and fluency

Review your child’s binders/class work daily

Home Access Center, or HAC for short, is a web based application which is tightly intergrated with the Teacher Access Center; the new electronic gradebook system used by our teachers.
