Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Apprenticeship
Applications accepted on first Tuesday in April and July. Must be 18 years of age by the date of application and have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must appear in person at the Landover office. See your teacher or counselor for more information. There is a $20 application fee.
 
                                      Central Scholarship Bureau
CSB helps students find money for post-secondary education since 1924.
CSB offers students packages of up to $10,000 in any combination of grants and interest-free loans. CSB states their loans are completely interest-free and fee-free for the life of the loan, with a repayment term of 10 years following a 6-month grace period after graduation. For full details, go to www.centralsb.org, where you can also find basic eligibility requirements and the application. More information is available at info@centrasb.org.

SunTrust College Scholarship Sweepstakes
Due: October 31 through May 15
High school seniors can win $1,000 scholarship for the first year expenses at an accredited college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every month from Oct. 31, 2008 through May 15, 2009. Students can begin to register starting Sept. 15, 2008. The first
drawing will be held on October 31, 2008. No loan application is necessary to win. Eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need.

Howard P. Rawlings Guaranteed Access Grant
Due: March 1, 2009
Applicant must be a senior in high school, be a Maryland resident, complete a college prep program, have a minimum cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.5, enroll in a Maryland college or university and have a total family annual income that qualifies for the GA Grant.

Marine Corps Scholarship

Patuxent Dental Scholarship
Due:   March 1, 2009
Applicant must be a full-time student enrolling in a full-time accredited school of dental hygiene or other dental care curriculum offering a course leading to licensure as a Dental Hygienist of Dentist. Must be a MD resident for at least one year.

Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarship
Due: March 1, 2009
Applicant must be a graduating senior, have been a Maryland or DC resident for at least one year preceding the date of the award, accepted for admission as a full time student, have demonstrated financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Transcript, copies of parents’ and applicant’s current income tax returns, copy of acceptance letter from accredited post secondary institution in Maryland or DC, 500 word essay and copy of SAT/ACT scores required.

Charlotte Hall School Scholarship
Due: March 13, 2009 nominations by HS principal or counselor to home high school Career Center.
Applicant must be recommended by home high school principal or counselor. Based on academic achievement. Applicant must submit a brief personal statement, to include goals and ambitions, in support of candidacy and appear before a Charlotte Hall School Scholarship Committee. Applicant should actively participate in co-curricular activities.

McDonald’s Educates Scholarship
Due: March 27, 2009
Applicant must be a high school senior in 08-09, live in the Washington, D.C. region, and demonstrate leadership skills both academically and within their community.   Applicant must submit an application, official transcript, letter of recommendation, and short answers to two questions.

Margaret Brent High School Alumni Association Scholarship
Due: March 31, 2009
Applicant must be a direct descendant of a former student of Margaret Brent High School of St. Mary’s County, Md. Applicant must be graduating high school senior, be accepted to a post secondary school and be a full-time student, be in the upper 50% of their graduating class, submit an application, a transcript, SAT/ACT scores, financial need must be established, include a copy of FAFSA or recent parent’s tax return.

Absalom Jones Memorial Window and Scholarship Fund
Due: April 3, 2009
Applicant must reside, attend school, or be a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington (St. Mary‘s County is within this diocese), be in need of financial assistance for post secondary education, and be attending an institution of higher education in fall 2009.

Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association Scholarship
Due: April 1, 2009
Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with a cumulative GPA (weighted) of 3.25 through the first semester of their senior year, pursue a college curriculum in communications, electronics, engineering, math, computer or scientific disciplines, complete the application, submit a transcript, SAT/ACT scores, two letters of recommendation, resume, and a 500 word (maximum) essay indicating plans for college, major academic interests and professional career intentions.

7th District Optimist Club Scholarship
Due: April 14, 2009
A scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female high school senior. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior in the top 20% of the graduating class, GPA of 3.0 or higher, submit an official transcript, current resume, three letters of recommendation, a 250 word essay describing your career.

GFWC Women’s Club of St. Mary’s County Memorial Scholarship
Due: Friday, April 17, 2009
Applicant must be a graduating senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher, pursuing a 2 or 4 year post-secondary education and meet all eligibility requirements. An application, essay, transcript, recommendations are required.
Applications are available in the JFCTC Career Center.

Essay Contests on Ayn Rand’s Books-
Entry Deadline: April 25, 2009
High School students may enter essay contest based on writings of Ayn Rand. No application is req’d. 800-1,600 word essay, no plagiarism, submits one essay.

AEMP (Association of Equipment Management Professionals) Foundation Scholarships
Due: May 1, 2009
Applicant must be student attending a qualified school offering a two year, diesel technician program. Recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in your classes.

Francis Knott Memorial Scholarship
Due: March 31, 2009

Ira Rosenwog Scholarship (Epilepsy Foundation)
Due: April 10, 2009
Applicants must be a high school senior with epilepsy who wishes to continue their education. Must submit application, financial documentation, a letter from your physician confirming a diagnosis of epilepsy, official transcript and essay.
Award: $500 - $2,000 annually

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship
Due: April 10, 2009
Applicant must plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student-fall 2009, be enrolled in an approved engineering program (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, applied math/statistics, computer engineering or computer science), minimum SAT score of 1900 (700 math, 600 critical reading, 600 writing) or composite ACT score of 28 (math and science scores of 30 or better), must be in the top 10% of graduating class.

Energetics Scholarship
Applicants must be high school seniors or recent graduates who are interested in careers in science, technology, engineering or math and plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, want to complete their associate’s degree at CSM and transfer to a university to complete their bachelor’s degree, and is motivated to complete their associates degree in two years (full-time recommended).

Booz Allen Hamilton Black History Month Essay Competition

Applicants must be current high school seniors in good academic standing and are eligible to submit an application and original writing sample. Good academic standing is defined as maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better throughout the academic school year for grades 9-11 and current year. Compose an original essay (send 3 copies) on the theme “Pressing Forward with a Dream-Recognizing Our Past and Celebrating Our Excellence”.
