PARKING APPLICATION WILL RE-OPEN JULY 10

Students requesting a parking perrmit privilege are expected to have a good attendance record (3 or fewer absences/tardies to school or class for the 4th marking period), good discipline record with no referrals for the 4th marking period, and a minimum 2.0 GPA for the 4th marking period with no grade of F.

Seniors who meet eligibility requirements will have first priority for a parking permit privilege.

Due to the number of requests for student parking permits, permits will not be issued to 11th grade students for after school jobs.

STUDENT PARKING REGULATIONS SCHOOL YEAR 2019-20

Driving to school is a privilege, not a right (buses are available for all students within the SMCPS attendance zone.) To be eligible to purchase a parking permit, students must settle outstanding fines and meet student parking guidelines. A valid driver’s license is required before your request for a school parking permit will be reviewed. Students may apply and be granted permission to drive and park a car in the school parking lot. Student cars parked on school premises are subject to search and seizure. SMCPS is not responsible for the vehicle and/or its contents.

v Parking on school grounds during school hours is BY PERMIT ONLY. Students applying for a permit must meet all other parking requirements.

v Parking on school grounds without a permit is a $20 fine per incident and will make the driver ineligible for a parking permit privilege for the next marking period.

v Using another student's permit is a $50 fine for the student using the permit and that student will be ineligible for a parking permit privilege for the next marking period.  The student who gave the permit will lose his/her parking privilege.

v Repeat offenders may have their vehicle towed at owner's expense.

For Permit Holders:

v The parking permit must be hung from the inside rearview mirror and clearly visible. Repeated citations for failure to display permit will result in a $25 school fine.

v Student parking is RESTRICTED solely to Lot A and Lot B in the student's assigned space. Students will park in their assigned lot and space. Students are not permitted to park in any areas designated for staff or visitor parking.

v Once a vehicle is parked; it is to be locked until after the driver’s last class. Any student entering or driving a vehicle without permission during the school day (including lunch time) may be subject to a discipline referral and may lose the parking permit. Students who are unlawfully absent from a class (cutting/skipping) or who transports other students who are unlawfully absent from school/class may lose their parking privileges for the school year.

v Reasonable care and observance of safe driving practices will be expected on campus grounds and at other St. Mary’s County Public Schools. Reckless driving, squealing tires, and any other unsafe driving behavior will not be permitted. Violation may result in loss of parking privileges. Drivers are expected to stop at crosswalks to allow the safe passage of pedestrians.

v PARKING SIGNS AND REGULATIONS MUST BE OBSERVED. At a minimum, initial violations will result in a warning sticker. Any further violations may result in ticketing/fines.

v Accidents, thefts and/or vandalisms involving parked vehicles on campus must be reported immediately.

v Chopticon High School will charge a $50.00 fee to each student who qualifies for a parking permit. If a parking permit is suspended or revoked, the fee is not refundable.

v The parking permit is non-transferable to other students.

v Loss of a permit for ANY REASON will result in a replacement charge of $25.00, payable when the replacement permit is issued.

v Failure to obey the direction of school staff while in or operating a vehicle will result in the loss of driving privileges and the parking permit.

SPEED LIMIT ON SCHOOL PROPERTY IS 15 MILES PER HOUR AT ALL TIMES!
