Box Tops

Our media center participates in the Box Tops for Education program.  Help us raise money for new books, materials, and resources when you shop by collecting Box Tops found on the items you are already buying.  To participate, simply cut out the Box Tops and attach them to a collection sheet to send to school.  Expired Box Tops don't count, and they can hurt our totals earned, so please check dates and send in regularly.  Box Tops must be collected and secured in pages of 10 or 50.  Loose box tops may be submitted in plastic bags if totalling 50.  Bonus Box Tops must be sent in separately, so please do not attach these to collection sheets.  Stay tuned for upcoming competitions.

Students in grades 2-5 participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) reading program.  Each quarter, your child's classroom teacher will set an individualized point goal to be reached by the end of the marking period.  To reach their goals, students will read books on their reading level and then take a comprehension book quiz using their AR account.  Students receive points for correct responses, and if they meet their goals, they are invited to participate in our quarerly incentives organized through the media center.  Students' names are also displayed on our AR bulletin board so that their success can be celebrated with the GKES school community.  All quizzes must be taken during students' free time at school, but if you would like a parent account to monitor your child's progress, contact Mrs. Dantuono.

GKES hosts a Scholastic Book Fair twice per year in October and March.  During this week-long event, students will visit the fair during Media to create wishlists, and students and families are invited to shop in the media center throughout the school day.  Volunteers are always needed for this event.  If you would to get involved, let Mrs. Dantuono know!  Our next fair is scheduled for March 5-9, 2018.
