In the Graphic Design elective class, students learn the principles of design and typography.  Students will explore graphic design history along with the latest in design technologies as they learn to create compelling visual communicatio.  This is a project-based class which will cover the following topics:  principals and elements of design, color theory, typography, and text effects, creation of print advertisments, editing and retouching images, logo design, and print design layouts for posters, newspapers and magazines.  Students will create a digital portfolio to showcase their work.  Students will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.  By the end of the graphic design elective, students will have gained knowledge of basic design principles, a thorough udnerstanding of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and gain insight into the opportunities and challenges of a design career.  

Planning Information

This class is a one year elective.

The class requires two periods in a student's schedule.

This elective satisfies a Fine Arts credit.
